Defeat Republic Bank in final
The victorious National Insurance Scheme Tapeball Cricket team showcases their trophies and medals following victory in the final against Republic Bank.
Host team National Insurance Scheme (NIS) walked away with the first place trophy when the entity held its four-team 40th Anniversary Tapeball Cricket Festival on Sunday last at their Carifesta Avenue Sports ground. The other teams participating were Scotia Bank Republic Bank and Courts (Guyana) Inc.
In the final Republic Bank batting first against NIS posted 65-6 off their 12 overs to which NIS scampered home in the final over, man-of-the-match Jamal De Lyon leading the way with a classy 20 which included a massive six over long on to seal the win for the host team.
Earlier in the day in the first of the two semi-finals, NIS got the better of Scotia Bank. The Scotia boys took to the crease first and were limited to 63-8 in their 10 overs. C. Gentle led with an unbeaten 14. S. Raghubar and R. Doolicahand took three wickets each for NIS who eased to victory in persistent drizzle, ending on 69-1. Doolichand capped a fine all-round performance with a polished 36 not out.
The second semi-final saw Republic Bank turning back the challenge of Courts (Guyana) Inc. by 16 runs. Republic Bank rattled up made 97-3 off their 10 overs and in response Courts were restricted to 81-7.
The NIS Sports Club Executive is extending gratitude to all whose contributions made the event a success. Singled out for special mention was former General Manager Mr. Martinborough who was on hand to present the winning trophy to the captain of NIS Mr. Regan Baxter.
