Under the astute guidance of Head Coach Wayne ‘Wiggy’ Dover, members of the ‘Golden Jaguars’ squad are winding down preparations for this month end’s Independence Four Nation Tournament in neighboring Suriname.
The team commenced their short period of preparation on Tuesday morning and will wrap up tomorrow afternoon at the GFC ground before leaving for Suriname on Monday morning where they will take on the host country, French Guiana and the Netherlands Antilles.
Dover told Kaieteur Sport that during this short period of preparation the Technical staff which also includes Assistant Coaches Bilaal Nantambu, Marlon Washington and Andrew Hazel (goalkeeper), are focusing on technical, tactical and physical work with the 24 players who are encamped.
Yesterday, the players did a lot of physical work including shuttle runs. One of the three overseas players who are here with the team, Jamal Breedy suffered a hamstring injury which will hamper his chances of making the final 18.
Kaieteur Sport also understands that Kelvin McKenzie and Quincy Madramootoo did not show up for the session, while Abassi McPherson felt ill during yesterday morning’s session. Kelvin Smith has been added to the roster.
Today’s sessions will entail the players do some technical and tactical work which will include passing, working on offence and pattern along with some small sided games.
