A leather craftsman who battered his wife on a pavement in Georgetown was remanded after failing to secure any sympathy from the magistrate in court.
Phillip Braithwaite, 45, of 133 North Melanie Damishana was refused bail by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, yesterday when he appeared before her to answer the charges of unlawful assault and threatening language.
It is alleged on October 14, in Georgetown, the accused unlawfully assaulted Dennez Braithwaite so as to cause actual bodily harm.
It is also alleged that on the same day the accused also threatened Mrs Braithwaite.
Braithwaite, who fathered two girls with Dennez Braithwaite, said to the court “I saw Dennez and my daughter, Paulette, liming outside the National Library by a drink vendor when she supposed to be in school.
“I asked what are you doing here and I asked my wife why is Paulette not in school. She didn’t reply so I approached her and she pulled out an umbrella and attempted to lash me and so I cuffed the umbrella but instead I hit her.”
According to Mrs. Braithwaite who appeared in court bearing marks of violence about her face, “She was with me because she had to print out a portfolio and we were waiting to go back to collect it.
“He came up and inquired and threatened me. He hit me and I fell to the ground and he came over me and started beating me in my face right on the pavement.”
The magistrate then called her up to view her blackened face and immediately refused to grant him bail.
Braithwaite is expected to return to court on October 26.
