Both Guyana Teachers Union President, Colwyn King, and the 15-year-old girl with whom he allegedly had sexual relations have undergone medical examinations and while King’s results have not been revealed, the medical on the teen suggested that she was sexually assaulted.
Police Commissioner Henry Greene said the force is awaiting two confirmations to further pursue the matter before sending the file to the DPP.
He told Kaieteur News, “Investigations are ongoing but we are awaiting verification of the girl’s age and King’s medical results.”
The Commissioner said that King is on $100,000 bail and has to report to the police station daily until further notice.
The commissioner however said, “There is nothing to suggest that she (the victim) did not go with him (King) voluntarily.”
As part of ongoing investigations, Commissioner Greene said that his ranks have collected statements on the matter.
The commissioner however noted, “She’s sexually active, she has reported that the encounter was her first time being engaged in such an act. King is denying the allegations.
Investigations are pointing to statutory rape allegedly perpetuated by the GTU president on a 15-year-old girl for food. These allegations have incensed sections of the populace who are questioning why it is that King is not before the courts.
Police investigations thus far are that on October 6, the teen had a quarrel with her mother, left her Sophia home and was wandering around close to the Kitty seawalls.
King allegedly picked up the Sophia teen and offered to buy her food as she was hungry. After purchasing the food he allegedly took her to his office on Wolford Avenue then to a hotel where they had sexual intercourse.
Police Commissioner Greene said that these are the allegations against the GTU President. “We are looking at some other evidence that approaches were made to the girl’s mother on King’s behalf to settle the matter financially.”
King who has denied the sex allegations was arrested and was placed in the lock-ups for one night.
