A fine half century by Mahendra Bennet and a five wicket haul by former Essequibo player Elroy Stephney guided Ravens to victory over Young Achievers as play in the Sharif and Shira Khan Memorial 20/20 cricket competition continued on Saturday in North Essequibo.
At Ravens ground the host batted first and scored 151-4 off their allotted 20 overs.
Bennet top scored with 61 while Keron Sewnarine supported with 25 as Naresh Ramdin took 2-25 for Young Achievers. In reply the visitors made 105-8 in their allotted overs. Deraj Roopchand made 28 while Stephney bagged 5-8 from 4 overs as Ravens won the game by 46 runs. At Lima, the home team beat Sparta by 95 runs. Lima took first strike and piled up 167-8 in 20 overs. Devindra Lall 29, Faizal Karim 28 and Abdool Salim 27 were their leading run scorers as Basdeo Lall and Ravi Shivpersaud took three wickets apiece.
Sparta responded with 72 all out in 18 overs. Shivpersaud was the only batsman that offered any resistance with 20. Subash Maipaul (2-19), Rajiv Manichand (2-19), Fawaz Karim (2-0) were the main wicket takers for Lima.
Meanwhile in other matches played, host Hampton Court lost to Police and Walton Hall overcame Danielstown at Walton Hall.
