Eon Benjamin, the 15-year-old who was stabbed to death at Mahaicony on Sunday, had beaten the 13-year-old suspect after wrongly accusing the lad of throwing a jersey into a trench.
Benjamin, of Cottage, Mahaicony, collapsed and died from stab wounds to the ribcage and abdomen.
Police said that the suspect remains in custody and may be charged this week with murder. This would make him one of the youngest persons to be slapped with the capital charge in the country.
According to reports, the two boys were among other lads who were swimming in a trench in Mahaicony on Sunday morning when one of the boys threw Benjamin’s jersey into the trench.
Police sources said that Benjamin wrongly accused the 13-year old of the prank and beat him up.
It is alleged that later that afternoon, Benjamin again attacked the lad, who armed himself with a knife and stabbed his attacker.
The wounded lad was rushed to the Mahaicony Hospital where he succumbed.
