Dear Editor,
I refer to Freddie Kissoon’s article in Kaieteur News on October 18, titled, “My book theft 39 years ago when I was a 17-year-old rascal.”
When SN published my letter on October 16, I expected Kissoon to go ballistic. I did not imagine he would retaliate with downright lies and fabrications.
First, in my original letter to SN, I named Kissoon’s lawyer as Hemraj Bhagwandin, not Hemraj Bhagdas. I’ve just learned that the lawyer’s name was Khemraj Bhagwandin who has since passed away.
Second, Kissoon writes: “Now can Mr. Muniram tell us why he was expelled from his studies in the USSR and what was his nickname among PPP students?” Mr. Editor, the PPP never sent me to study in the USSR so the question of expulsion and “nickname among PPP students” does not arise. Freedom House can confirm this.
Third, Kissoon writes: “Can Muniram tell us why Mrs. Jagan fired him from The Mirror?”
Mrs Jagan never fired me from the Mirror. I resigned on May 5, 1992 after a disagreement with her on an article I wrote about the bauxite industry. Mrs Jagan is no
longer alive but Clinton Collymore or Kellawan Lall could confirm this.
Fourth, Kissoon asked: “Why Novosti Press Agency terminated his employment?” Novosti closed its Guyana Bureau in July 1991 and terminated the employment of the entire staff, not me alone. Former Novosti secretary Volda Lawrence, now an MP, can confirm this.
Fifth, Kissoon writes: “I visited his home thrice in Thomas Street, Kitty, for information on Mrs. Jagan.” I never lived in Thomas Street, Kitty and Kissoon never asked me for information on Mrs Jagan.
Sixth, Kissoon writes: “I was charged for stealing books from the National Library in 1970 which Mr. Muniram allowed me to take from the Library.” Mr. Editor, I don’t know about that charge as I started working at the National Library on April 16, 1970. I never allowed Kissoon to take any book illegally out of the Library. Whenever I was on duty I date-stamped every book he tendered to the counter of the Adult Lending Department.
Seventh, all the so-called homosexual encounters Kissoon says he had with me never, ever took place. I have never been a homosexual.
With the endless number of beautiful girlfriends I had, there was no need for me to be a homosexual. These are the desperate fabrications of Kissoon who never expected to read what I wrote in the SN on October 16.
