Dear Editor,
I write to applaud Kaieteur News for its front page and coverage on Diwali celebrations over the last few days. They were absolutely terrific and made my Diwali more special.
However, your daily columnist, Freddie Kissoon, need to be upbraided. Freddie has a right to write on any subject and to attack anyone or entity he pleases.
In fact, he does it daily. But one would have expected that on Diwali day, with its religious significance to the Hindu community, if not the entire national community, could he not have penned some positive aspect of life in the society.
Instead, he chose to attack the deceased Dr. Jagan, Ravi Dev, and the entire Indian community on Diwali Day, the most celebrated and one of the most auspicious days for Indian people globally. I don’t know if Mr. Kissoon is a Hindu. But on Diwali, we forgive everyone for past hurts and start anew because it is our New Year. We don’t attack people and we celebrate the occasion.
Everyone, including those who oppose and hate the government, had a positive Diwali message in the papers. Kaieteur News had some lovely articles about Diwali and its meaning. Freddie, there is nothing wrong, one day of the year, just one day, to write a positive message, of hope, instead of hopelessness and despair about our nation.
Vishnu Bisram
