…alleges snob by management
A key Director of the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) has resigned after she was reportedly locked out of a top management meeting last week.
The resignation has sparked the anger of at least one member of the GuySuCo’s Board of Directors about the way Marketing Director, Nisa Surujbally, has been treated.
Surujbally is wife of Dr Steve Surujbally, Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission.
Several sources yesterday confirmed that the incident happened on October 7. Surujbally was in her office and other officials of the management team had to pass by her office to the meeting room.
According to the source, to lock someone of the calibre of Surujbally out of the meeting for being a few minutes late is a “stupid, childish excuse” that is “ludicrous. There is something more to this than meets the eye.”
Efforts to make contact with management late last evening proved futile.
Kaieteur News was told that the Director was a few minutes late for the meeting and met a locked door. A few minutes later, another senior official of the company arrived late but was let in.
Surujbally, who has worked several years with GuySuCo, tendered her resignation the same day giving three months notice.
The Marketing Director was in charge of sugar and molasses sale, shipping and ensuring that the state-owned entity is International Organization For Standardization (ISO) certified.
“This is a woman who was a protégé of Ian McDonald, an experienced marketing campaigner for GuySuCo. Some would say she is even better. GuySuCo is claiming that they are short of skilled workers. What kind of message are they sending now that she is going?”
Kaieteur News was unable to make contact with Surujbally as she is reportedly out of the country.
According to the source, Surujbally was a hard worker who because of her job, had to be in her office by six every morning in order to maintain contact with what is happening in Europe. Many of her nights were also spent at the company.
“So, the question that should be asked now is what is happening at GuySuCo?”
