The Bureau of Statistics is the central authority on statistics in Guyana. It supplies information on population, Crude Birth Rate, Labour Force, Net Enrollment Rate, Gross Domestic Product and Inflation Rate.
Yesterday, on the occasion of Statistics Day representatives of the Bureau of Statistics, including the Chairman Ian Manifold, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Statistics Lennox Benjamin, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs, Nigel Dharamlall and Deputy UNICEF representative Rudi Lunchmann launched a programme that would see statistics on various aspects of national life being posted electronically.
Collectively they all shared the same opinion on the advantages of the new DevInfo software which can be used to benefit various Governmental organisations and private sector businesses.
DevInfo software has been developed under the UN partnership and is distributed royalty-free to all end users
National statistics offices, UN agencies, donors, NGOs and civil society organizations can prepare reports and presentations using this common database platform The system has been endorsed by the UN Development Group and is being used in many countries to help track and monitor the progress of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and other national priorities.
It is a general purpose database system for the collation and presentation of data on human development and it supports both standard and user-defined indicators. Its capacity and capabilities allows national administrators to link the database to all relevant administrative levels to be able to analyze geographic relationships of key indicators
Beyond providing a repository of data, DevInfo provides easy-to-use facilities for querying the database and, based on the data retrieved, for producing tables, graphs, and maps for inclusion in reports and presentations.
