Berbice police have nabbed and charged three men who they believe were the real culprits in the recent Hogstye, Corentyne robbery committed on Subash Singh, 50; and his wife Jaiwantie, 47; last month.
Gavin Brown 27, of Manchester Village Corentyne Berbice; Nicholas Sunny called ‘Fedder’, 24, of 64 B Rose Hall Town Corentyne, and Seon Matthews called ‘Stupidness’, of Ulverston, Corentyne, were remanded by newly appointed magistrate Olga Hamilton when they appeared before her on Tuesday at the Whim Magistrate’s Court charged with robbery under arms.
The victims were robbed at around 02:00 hrs on Tuesday September 22 last of more than $ 7.6M in cash and jewellery including $5.2 million in local currency, US$8,700 and Surinamese $1,085. Police Prosecutor Sergeant Michael Grant told the court that the men who are all known characters were nabbed after police, who continued to probe the matter, received certain information.
They were arrested and subsequently positively identified as the culprits.
Five other suspects were previously arrested shortly after the robbery.
The accused will return to court on the October 26.
