A resident of Albouystown was remanded to prison yesterday on two counts of robbery under arms in the Albouystown area.
Tony Ogle, 34, of Albouystown, Georgetown, and a father of two, was refused bail after appearing before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.
It is alleged on September 30 the accused, armed with a gun relieved Ethan Curtis of a quantity of gold and diamond valued at $800,000, some cash amounting to $900,000; a briefcase worth $10,000 and two cell phones worth $144,000.
It is also alleged that on the same day the accused, while armed with a gun robbed Shondelle Wilson, of a cell phone worth $30,000; a pair of gold earrings valued at $30,000 and some $9,300 in cash.
Attorney at law Patrice Henry represented ogle who is a beverage vendor in Albouystown. Henry told the court “my client was in custody since Saturday and was arrested at his residence along with several others on a raid conducted in the area by police”. He added, “my client was at home on the day in question and has his wife as an alibi”.
According to Curtis, who positively identified the accused said, “We were at home when the accused attacked me with a gun. Another one snatched the housekeeper and pushed us in the bedroom and told us that they want the jewelry and money, and them ran away and we raise the alarm.”
The prosecution objected to bail. According to prosecutor Krishnadat Ramana, “An investigation was carried out within the area of the incident; the accused was positively identified and was arrested by the police.”
The magistrate refused to grant bail and the accused is expected to return to court on October 20.
