Dear Editor,
Nothing short of an outright condemnation by the Hindu community would suffice in what can be seen as a glaring attack on the sacred religion of Hinduism.
We are being advised by way of television advertisements that Gerry Gouveia’s Duke Lodge will be holding a party titled “Eclipse – Glamour and Glow Party” for Diwali Night – a sacrosanct night in the Hindu calendar when its is believed that good triumphed over evil.
Surely, as with parties of such genre, vulgarity and lewdness galore can be expected in the form of the music, dress and dance. And such on a holy night!!
Mr. Gouveia, as a Christian, why not hold your hellish party on Good Friday night? Do not blaspheme Hinduism.
Gouveia, it would seem, intends to profiteer from Diwali, a night revered in Hinduism, a truly peaceful religion.
Or is it that you are willing to do anything for the dollar?
In Islamic societies, blasphemy of Islam is a crime.
Hinduism, for too long has been subjected to abuse my people who are not Hindus.
Hindu leaders of this country need to get their act together and condemn this sacrilegious violation of our religion.
At a time when Guyana and the entire world is in crisis, the need to do the right things in keeping with the expectations of the teachings of religions cannot be over emphasised or underestimated.
Our country has so far been spared many of the mad-made and natural troubles which we see daily wreaking havoc on countries around the world.
For this alone, we ought to be thankful to God for being kind to us but instead we are looking at ways to be irreverent and blasphemous.
Maybe the time has come for the enactment of a law to preserve the sanctity of Diwali.
