A tragic road accident, which occurred Saturday night at Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara, Saturday night, has left one dead.
Chetram Jaikarran, 13, of Supply, Mahaica, a student of Lancaster Community High School, died at the Georgetown Hospital yesterday.
Jaikarran, who was a patient in the Intense Care Unit of the hospital for a day, suffered severe head injuries after he was hit off his bicycle by a truck.
According to reports, around 19:00 hrs Saturday, Jaikarran, accompanied by his two cousins and a friend were all riding bicycles going home after visiting his uncle when he was hit.
Kimattie Jaikarran, who is Jaikarran’s aunt told Kaieteur News that four boys were riding on the right hand side of the road and a speeding truck swerving to avoid some people on the left side, struck the teenager.
“As people come out to see, the driver take out he phone and called he father and he father come and took Chetram to the hospital. He head de burst open in front bleeding,” she exclaimed.
The boy was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital on Saturday night. He was taken yesterday to another hospital to perform a head scan. Shortly after his return, the teenager died.
The driver of the van was however apprehended on the same night of the accident and was taken into custody at the Cane Grove Police Station.
