The Guyana Taekwondo Association (GTA) has named a six man team (three athletes, two coaches & manager) to represent Guyana at this year’s World Taekwondo Championships set for Copenhagen, Denmark from October 14-18, 2009.
This year’s team features the 2007 Pan American 4th placed, 4th Dan Kukkiwon Black Belt holder David Rajjab, who took a year off from training and competition due to medical reasons.
Also on the team is 2009 U.S. Open Taekwondo Championships contenders 3rd Dan Kukkiwon Black Belt holder Adrian Spellen and 1st Dan Kukkiwon Black Belt holder Kenrick Sven Lorrimer. Accompanying these athletes will be Level Two Coach Brian Singer, Coach Bernard Spellen and Manager David Andes.
The GTA has expressed full confidence in all three athletes selected to represent Guyana at the championships and is also confident about their coaches ability to lead them to victory while being certain that they will bring back medals more so gold medals.
This would be Guyana’s sixth appearance at the World Taekwondo Championships and the GTA is hoping to build on past experiences at this level of competition.
These athletes were selected for this championship based on their everyday rigorous training routines and also on their past competition experience and successes.
These athletes are all in top fighting condition and they have all acknowledged their eagerness to compete and bring back gold medals for their beloved country Guyana.
