… “I like this woman bad, bad”
An obsessive porter, in the habit of beating his estranged reputed wife, will have to cool his heels in jail for the next 42 days.
Ryan Nandra, 28, of 134 Strand Road, New Amsterdam, was jailed by Magistrate Taejnarine Ramroop when he appeared before him recently at the New Amsterdam Magistrates’ Court.
He was charged with assault committed on his former reputed wife, Pamela Patrick, on September 27 at Lad Lane, New Amsterdam.
Police Prosecutor Corporal Roberto Figueira told the court that the couple had shared a relationship for about five months but things did not work out. The woman decided to end the relationship. Nandra, the prosecutor said, did not want to accept defeat and constantly harassed the woman.
On the day in question, the woman had gone to New Amsterdam to conduct personal business when once again the defendant pounced on her and immediately started to slap her about her face and body. He also threatened to kill her if she did not renew the relationship with him.
The woman managed to escape and reported the matter to police, resulting in Nandra being arrested and charged.
In court, Nandra begged feverishly for a chance, telling the magistrate that “I really can’t help me self… you know what ah talking about. It was love at first sight, boss. Like ah does be overcome by something… ah really don’t know. I like this woman bad, bad. The first time I see she, I fell in love with she.”
He said he was sorry. However, the woman indicated that she did not want anything to do with Nandra and asked the court to send him to jail.
“Sir, if this man stays on the road he will continue to harass me. Is not the first time he do it. I have to hide and walk… he done threaten to kill me.” Prosecutor Figueira asked the court to impose a custodial sentence on the defendant, since he was charged for assaulting the woman before.
