As 9-year-old Sunil Singh remains critical at the Georgetown Hospital after he was hit by a GEB security vehicle, relatives said that they are unhappy with the way the matter is being handled by the police.
One relative of the victim told Kaieteur News that “the vehicle and the driver are out of the station”.
Another relative added “when I call the police station to find out how the vehicle and the driver loose, the police slammed the phone in me ears”.
Further, the relatives bemoan the unreliability of the police at the station, claiming “them police at the station take about twenty minutes to reach the site of the incident, when them only five buildings away.”
He added that “the people from the GEB guard service, who vehicle knock down the boy never rendered any assistance to us whatsoever”.
Meanwhile, another relative said “the boy get knock down on a pedestrian crossing that does see about fifty to sixty nursery and primary school children crossing at any one time and the vehicles don’t stop… them does ‘zoom’ cross.”
When Kaieteur News contacted the Mahaicony Police Station, the officer-in-charge said that the driver was charged for dangerous driving and placed on bail. She said that all the accusations made by the relatives were untrue as investigations found that the point of impact in the accident was not on the pedestrian crossing and the police arrived promptly.
The accident which took place on October 7 at Mahaicony, left Singh hospitalised in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the GPHC nursing severe head injuries.
At the time of the accident, the student was on his way home from school for lunch.
