He has demolished all and sundry that dared to challenge him locally, now national race walk champion, Rudolph Mitchell prepares for a tougher challenge when he leaves Guyana on Friday October 16 to participate in the Barbados race walk, under the auspices of the Barbados Tourism Association, scheduled for that country two days after his arrival.
Female race walk champion, Donna Ramkissoon would also comprise a part of the team.
Public Relations Officer of the Cavalier Sports and Tour Club (CSTC), David Kirton told Kaieteur Sport that Barbados race walk officials were impressed with Mitchell’s local performance and subsequently extended an invitation for him to participate in the event. Ramkissoon’s exploits on the local scene were also noted and she was selected to accompany Mitchell to the event. Kirton also disclosed that an official, to be named later, would accompany the duo.
Meanwhile, 2 race walk officials from the Elaine Ward Race Walk Foundation, NY, USA, are scheduled to arrive in Guyana early next month to conduct training sessions and facilitate seminars with local race walkers.
The facilitators will arrive in Guyana during the first week of November for a two week sojourn. While here they would engage local race walk executives on the intricacies of the sport. The officials would also participate in a race walk event organized by the CSTC.
The group is also scheduled to pay courtesy calls on President of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), Mr. K A Juman Yassin as well as the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Dr Frank Anthony.
