If you were to cut Gavin Gayadin don’t be surprised if you see gasoline or engine oil instead of blood, since as he puts it “motor racing is in my veins”. It has only been five years since the diminutive Gayadin moved on to the scene but in that time he as achieved more than some others with twice times his years of service.
“Some people find pleasure in drinking a beer during the afternoon; some folks go for Bar-B-Que chicken on the seawalls on Sunday.
That’s how they get their pleasure. I find pleasure in being on the track. I am in another world when I am there. I drive to win but driving alone gives me great pleasure, anything that comes after that is a plus,” Gayadin told Kaieteur Sport.
The diminutive driver has twice competed in Jamaica and had his last international sojourn in Barbados last month. There he powered to a first and third position. His aim now is next month’s huge international meeting which will see the cream of the Caribbean in action. There he hopes to put on an impressive showing, leaving the opposition in his dust.
Then Gayadin is expected to dart around the track in a BMW 381 Turbo and will target both the Group Three and Four categories. “Based on performance I would say that the BMW is one of the better cars around, I now have to go out there and do my work as a driver. Ultimately my goal is to win the Group Three and then compete in Group Four.”
In Group Three Ravi Singh of Trinidad and Tobago and local Ryan Rahaman are listed as brain pains for Gayadin.
It is not all easy work. “The hardest thing is putting the car together. My mechanic `Fried Rice’ (Nahendra Babulall), and I have been putting in hours upon hours but we are yet to have everything in place. However, we still have some time on our hands and hope that we get everything right at the meeting. Once the car works well, I will do the rest,” Gayadin promised.
He informed that the car took some time to get to its true operational potential, giving him the performance he desired.
Now they are working to get it in excellent shape for next month’s action. Gayadin told Kaieteur Sport that he has got the promise that his machine will be ready for full testing in another week or two and when all is checked and corrected…the fireworks is expected.
