Debbie Brucetor, 43, of Paradise, East Coast Demerara, was given a $25,000 fine or serve 18 months in prison after she appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson to answer a charge of simple larceny.
It is alleged that on October 6, 2009 at Giftland Office Max the accused, who was employed at Giftland Office Max as a janitor for three months, stole $13,000 from the office of the Chief Executive Officer.
The security guard arrested the accused.
After pleading guilty, the accused explained, “I stole the money to go to the doctor”.
According to the prosecution, the accused reported for duty at Giftland.
She went into the CEO’s office to clean and she was caught on the surveillance camera removing the money from an envelope, which was in a drawer in the office.
She placed the money in her skirt waist and attempted leave but was approached by internal security and handed over the money”.
The money was lodged at the Brickdam Police Station.
