The Guyana Fire Service received one of two packages from the Ministry of Home Affairs, yesterday, at the National Park. The cost of this ‘package’ is $318M and comprised three water tenders, one water carrier and a tender capable of accessing high rise buildings.
According to Fire Chief Marlon Gentle, “In 2008 the Guyana Fire Service embarked on a programme to upgrade its current resources as well as to expand its services to new areas. This department has therefore taken some initiative, such as increasing its present fleet, constructing fire stations in new areas, and exposing its membership to upgrade training programme locally as well as overseas, he said.

Home Affairs Minister, Clement Rohee, stated that he hopes that the fire equipment will bring much needed support and relief to the country.
On an average day there are about 19 fire-related calls. “We have determined the causes of about 70 per cent of the fires for this year. “That is why we visit schools and give safety lectures along with trying to educate the public about fire safety.
