Greaves to defend feature 35-Lap title, 3 BMX & Helmets to be given away
The Inner Circuit of the National Park will again be a hot bed for cyclists tomorrow when the 7th annual Hand in Hand Mutual Fire & Life Insurance Company sponsored 11-race meet comes off.
Riders enjoyed an excellent day at last Sunday’s Track Meet at the Everest ground but will have to readjust to the rigors of the National Park circuit tomorrow.
An exciting duel is anticipated between defending champion of the feature 35-lap school boys and novices event Alonzo Greaves and physically challenged rider Walter Grant-Stuart who out pedaled the entire field to win the feature race last Sunday at Everest.
There will be no letting up by the sun which has been shining in all its glory, so competitors will have to be at the top of their game if they will pose any threats to the main contenders.
Apart from the feature race, the young BMX riders will have their time to shine with races also scheduled for them as well as the females, Marcia Dick and Naiomi Singh will use tomorrow’s race as continued practice ahead of the Inter Guiana competition set for Suriname next weekend.
Geron Williams, Christopher Holder and Daniel Ramchurejee will also use tomorrow’s event as continued preparation ahead of competition at the Inter Guiana Games. Veterans and upright cyclists are also catered for tomorrow where trophies and other incentives will be on offer for the top performers.
Meanwhile, Hand in Hand will for the third straight year maintain the tradition they have started of equipping promising BMX riders with the tools of their trade. Three BMX riders who have been regarded as promising riders coming out of the Annual Teach Them Young Programme held at the said venue, conducted by National Coach Hassan Mohamed and sponsored by the National Sports Commission will receive BMX cycles along with helmets.
Last year’s recipients were Raymond Perez and the Mc Lean brothers, Rawle and Kareem.
Hand in Hand Sales Manager Colin Welcome is expected to be on hand to make the various presentations. The first race tomorrow is set for 09:00hrs.
