Sherlock Allick, 19, of Station Street, Matthews Ridge, was remanded to prison yesterday after he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson to answer the charge of murder.
On September 5, last, in the Barama River, the accused, who is a metal detector operator at Barama allegedly killed Regerton Simon.
According to the accused, “I was going to work a morning and two men tell me them want a drop up the river in me boat”. He said that when he reached the place where they had to come off because he was not going any further they demanded him to go further. He said that they threatened to shoot him.
“Go further; go further them tell me or I gon shoot you. And I continue. Them tell me them going by the dragger. Them tell me them going and rob the dragger. When we reach I turn and I hear shots and then when I see them run I try fuh get me boat but it ain’t move so I walk back.”
According to the prosecution, “The accused and others went up the Barama River with the intention of committing a robbery on a dredge. One of the other persons accompanying the accused shot Regerton Simon”.
“The accused who observed the entire incident did not report the matter. Based on the information the police received from the investigation, the accused was arrested and charged for the murder,” Prosecutor Kevin Osborne added.
Allick was refused bail by the magistrate and is expected to return to court November 3.
