The national junior basketball team that will compete at the Inter-Guiana Games (IGG) in neighbouring Suriname intensified their preparations under Coach, Robert Cadogan at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall yesterday evening.
The initial 28-plus member male team that was further slashed to 15 was further abridged to the 12 players expected to travel. Kaieteur Sport understands that the touring male side was named and is undergoing serious training.
The members of the touring party has already submitted their passports to the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and had to undergo a medical examination that primarily tested for Yellow Fever among other threatening ailments.
In addition, the male team was asked to submit a passport size photograph for the purpose of receiving their official IGG pass in Suriname. The administrative and physical aptitude of those close to the team is apparently outstanding.
Today marks the one week countdown to the commencement of the IGG competition that is expected to run from October 15-19. The planning and administrative qualities of IGG were being implemented months in advance.
The other teams expected to tour Suriname for the event include a female basketball team and both male and female volleyball teams.
This newspaper could not get updates relative to those other teams up to press time yesterday.
However, Cadogan has been working with the defending male basketball champions for a long time now and is currently preparing the team for competition. Cadogan was acutely involved in an intense practice session last evening.
“I cannot speak to you now. I am having a serious practice session,” the Head Coach told this newspaper from the Sports Hall.
Cadogan, who went to a High Performance training course in Mexico, was tasked with preparing the team.
