Water woes hit Central Mahaicony

Residents of Central Mahaicony in Region Five (Mahaica/Berbice) are suffering from a lack of potable water supplies.
And the severe  inconvenience  has been ongoing for the past three months, one resident disclosed yesterday.
“Something wrong with the pump at Central Mahaicony since June and people here have been resorting to breaking the mains in order to get supplies,” she disclosed.
Those hardest hit are those residing on the road that was once the railway line.
Yesterday, many residents  were seen with large quantities of empty  containers looking for potable water.
No water flowed for the entire morning but began to trickle in yard pipes around 13.30 hours, one resident said adding that this has been the pattern more often than not.
She added that throughout the three month period  no one from GWI had contacted them to say why supplies were not being provided nor had anyone organized any relief actions.
The resident  recalled that there was some amount of rainfall in June and residents were able to trap and keep rain water for domestic use.
But the current El Nino weather conditions have resulted in an exacerbation of the problem and the inconvenience.
Efforts were made to obtain a comment from GWI Officials but these proved futile.
