Tutorial High School’s ‘B’ House spent two years in the shadows of ‘E’ House before the 2006 Champions took back the title they consecutively lost to their nemesis at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary yesterday afternoon.
WE DID IT!!! Tutorial High School’s ‘B’ House celebrate after reclaiming the title they won in 2006 at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary yesterday.
The winning ‘B’ House amassed 473 points to beat defending champions’ ‘E’ House in a close battle for top honours in the annual event. ‘E’ House ended second on 396 points with ‘G’ House third on 360 points in the competition.
‘C’ House was fourth in the contest with 341 points while ‘D’ House rounded off the top five with 309 points. ‘A’ House was sixth with 284 points while ‘H’ House completed the ‘houses’ that competed by occupying the last position.
Assistant House Mistress for the winning ‘B’ House Tesaega Alleyne told Kaieteur Sport that though they had problems preparing for the event, their minds were more focused on the final outcome rather than the hurdles to cross.
“We weren’t preparing. We just put a team together without time to practice. The athletes practiced on their own and we are very proud of them,” Alleyne said, adding that athletes faced many challenges but they won nevertheless.
The Assistant House Mistress informed that athletes wanted to drop out because it looked as though they were going to lose the championship early on. However, she said, they got the composure when they surged ahead in the contest.
According to Alleyne, national junior distance runner and 2009 CARIFTA gold medallist Jevina Straker gave them the momentum to carry on. She said that athletes such as Orin Sobers ought to be commended for in the ‘House’.
The competition in the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports’ and Ministry of Education National Schools’ Athletics, Cycling and Swimming contest is heating up in Georgetown since Upper Demerara/Kwakwani won last year.
Formidable contenders, North Georgetown held their Inter-School competition for Zones one, two, three and four yesterday at the Guyana Teachers’ Union (GTU) ground where a surging Richard Ishmael won field events in zone one.
Queens College won swimming in zone one and took second in the field events with 442 points. Ishmael had received 506 points to win zone one of the districts field events. The Bishops’ High school won both categories in zone two.
