Drapaul Persaud, 37, of New Anglet, West Bank Demerara, was refused bail, yesterday, after appearing before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson for a charge of simple larceny.
It is alleged that on Friday October 2, the accused who is not a first offender, stole one motor car valued at $2 M, property of Aminauth Ramsaroop, the proprietor of a car rental service.
The prosecutor, Krishnadat Ramana, said “Ramsaroop rented a car to Morton Alphonso, who took the car to GuyExpo, went into the exhibition and came out and saw the car gone.
“He reported the matter to the police. The accused who stole the car went to Berbice where he was involved in an accident”.
“The accused requested assistance from a nearby resident who notice the car to be stolen, and contacted the police who arrested the accused at Fort Wellington”.
The magistrate refused bail.
Persuad is expected to return to court on October 19.
