A mishap at a school sports, Thursday last, landed 13-year-old Shawanda Mohamed, at the Georgetown Public Hospital, suffering a broken jaw.
It was reported that Shawanda, while assisting in constructing a tent in the last minutes of preparation for her school sports, sustained a blow to the jaw from an iron pole.
Up to late yesterday, she was still in the hospital and had not received the requisite treatment from the medical authorities.
“They only giving she pain killers, and when it wear off, she is in terrible pain,” Shawanda’s father told Kaieteur News.
Mohamed is incapable of eating solid foods. She has been drinking juices and water ever since the incident. Also, until the doctor could tend to her with correct treatment she would have to be sustained by pain killers.
Relatives related that they are fearful that if Shawanda is not treated soon, the damage to her might be irreversible.
“Her jaw is dislocated and pain killers are not going to relocated it” one relative said.
The family is under the impression that there is only one doctor in the entire hospital capable of executing the procedures to repair Shawanda’s broken jaw.
