Grantley Culbard, former General Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Clerical and Commercial Workers’ Union (CCWU), has retired at the age of 66. Culbard has given long and dedicated service to the CCWU, the Guyana trades union movement and the Caribbean Labour movement.
He joined the trade union movement in 1964 and functioned in a number of capacities within the fraternity.
In his long and distinguished career Culbard served as Education Officer, Assistant Organising Secretary and he was also Chairman of the Youth Advisory Board to name a few positions he held within the trade union movement.
The stalwart was aptly qualified and has the distinction of being among the first set of individuals to obtain the certificate in Industrial Relations and Social Studies from the Critchlow Labour College.
Culbard was also internationally trained; he did courses in the USA and at the International Labour Organisation in Geneva.
The long serving trade unionist was instrumental in the production of a periodic magazine called Labour View Point and two manuals for Caribbean Trade Unionist.
His position is now taken by Ms Ann Anderson.
