Rebel SC defeated Satro SC by 5 wickets to win the final of the P&P Insurance Brokers 40 overs Cricket competition played on Sunday at Whyte’s Park in Leguan.
Rebel won the toss and asked Satro to bat first in brilliant sunshine and in front of a fair size crowd which included the managing director of P&P Insurance Brokers Mr. Bish Panday and Khemraj Ramjattan, they scored 136 all out in 35 overs. Shazaad Razack was their leading run getter with 50 while Brian Roopchand bagged 4-19 off 8 overs. Rebel in reply won the game in 20 overs ending on 137-5. Muneshwar Jattan top scored with 70 which included nine fours and two sixes as Zaheer Razack took 2-34 for the losers. Rebel received the winning trophy along with a bat and a box of balls while Satro took the runner up hardware and a bat. Shazaad Razack (165 runs) was given the competition’s best batsman award while Zaheer Razack (14 wkts) received the best bowler prize.
At the presentation ceremony Mr. Bish Panday congratulated the winning team and promised to continue supporting cricket on the Essequibo river island. Mr. Sheik Fazal the chairman of the Leguan Cricket Committee thanked the sponsor for coming on board. (Zaheer Mohamed)
