The Office of the President was the scene of yet another picketing exercise yesterday, this time by former Chief Magistrate Juliet Holder-Allen and a colleague.
Bearing placards stating: “Holocaust month, time to end the suffering’, and “Set us free, PPP/C resign now” the two women stood outside the building for some 15 minutes before a police rank told them to move.
During the brief picketing exercise, Mrs. Holder-Allen accused the PPP/C administration of corruption, murder, racism and lack of accountability, and called on President Bharrat Jagdeo to step down.
She added that under the Constitution, the President can be forced to step down for misconduct.
Mrs. Holder-Allen, who is also the presidential candidate for the fledgling National Democratic Party, said that she will be stepping up her protest action.
And pointing out that Africans commemorate Holocaust Month in October, Mrs. Holder-Allen’s colleague said that African-Guyanese should not have to live “in such an oppressive society.”
Mrs. Holder-Allen has repeatedly accused the PPP/C administration of victimisation.
Mrs. Holder-Allen had opted for early retirement in 2008 after the Judicial Service Commission had removed her from her post in 2004, in the wake of allegations which the former Chief Magistrate repeatedly said were untrue and were politically motivated.
She also alleged that she was falsely accused by Government officials of being involved in the torching of the Ministry of Health building in Brickdam.
