The family of 20-year-old Malvin Seemangal has sought the intervention of the Ministry of Labour to help the young man get his benefits from the company at which he suffered an industrial accident.
According to the young man’s aunt, Lilloutie Thakurdai, she was forced to lodge a complaint since the company refused to stand her nephew’s medical bills.
Thakurdai said on Wednesday last that she visited the Labour Ministry after she was so advised and she has since given a written complaint.
The woman said that an officer there promised that the Ministry would investigate the report.
In July, 20-year-old Seemangal who was then employed by Tiger Woods Inc. in Land of Canaan lost three of his fingers while on the job.
The man who barely speaks English said his co-workers took him to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre and left him there. He added that since then he has only received $5000 in cash and nothing more from the company, which only keeps making promises.
The man’s aunt, with whom he lives, said she even asked the company if it was not willing to compensate her nephew to ensure that he can afford a trip back to his home country.
The company had promised to look into the possibility of that happening but to date officials have not yet contacted the injured man.
Seemangal’s father was killed last March in Venezuela. This forced the now injured man and his two other siblings to return to Guyana with other relatives.
