Priya Mohamed of BM Soats Auto Sales is at her wits end to get what she calls an ease from terrorism by school children.
According to the woman, ever since the Traffic Department of the Guyana Police Force branded the roadway directly in front of their Croal Street business a bus stop, the nightmare began.
She related to this newspaper that when school closes for its day’s session at 15:00hrs, the nightmare begins, given that this is when the school children would congregate.
Mohamed added also that there are fights daily, and these are not confined to the boys.
She noted, too, that many of the fights with the boys and sometimes with the girls get extremely violent to the point that knives and bottles are used.
According to Mohamed, there is also the use of drugs among the secondary school children.
The woman said that on many occasions she called the police but to no avail, adding that the behaviour of the school children has become a deterrent to her business during those hours.
According to Mohamed, yesterday, a fight occurred and a large glass pane was broken.
It is costly on the business in that on many occasions the vehicles on display are scratched and the business has to incur a cost to repair the damages.
What is worse according to Mohamed is the fact that they are unable to upbraid the unruly schoolchildren, given that they become very abusive towards the proprietors and staff.
She said that at one time she even went into the Education Ministry’s welfare department and was given a telephone number to call when the school children congregate but the phone has never been answered.
