Fifty five athletes ranging from 5 – 17 years and representing 4 dojos under the auspices of the Guyana Wydo-Ryu Karate Association (GWRKA) successfully competed in the Junior Kumite Karate tournament when that association held their annual Junior Kumite Karate tournament at the Banks DIH Sports Club Thirst Park, Sunday September 27 last. The event was declared open by representative of the main sponsors, Public Relations Office Troy Peters who wished the participants well even as he expressed delight at sponsoring the programme, on behalf of Banks DIH Ltd.

Meanwhile, the tournament culminates a successful 2009 campaign for the GWKA following the Annual National Senior Guyana Karate Federation Championship, which was held on Sunday September 20 last at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Four Kumite categories contested and the GWKA eventually emerged victorious in 3 of those categories. The GWKA has 4 operating dojos at the Banks DIH Sports Club, Eccles Primary School, Mae’s School and Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo.
