Dear Editor,
The big question is who. I know most of the times the question that bothers the minds of people is why, but what I want to bring to the table this day is who are these people who go in public and speak about rice as if they know everything about it.
There is an old saying, “those who claim to know everything knows nothing”. I am disturbed and sometimes I wonder who give these opposition members their certificates.
I do not see them in the fields. Which one of them ever visited the rice field and spend time there to see through an operation and to have a feel of what it’s like to be in the hot sun and traversing the land by feet.
What I can say is that I have seen with my own eyes the Minister of Agriculture in the rice fields, standing up amongst farmers in the hot sun and walking the rice fields. Hence, when he speaks, I know that this man has experience and knows what it is like to be in the fields.
And again, he will be able to make a much better decision to benefit the farmers and reward them for their labour.
I even once saw the Minister cutting cane on the television. This is what we need from the opposition, not to just sit in fancy chairs in their offices in an air conditioned room and criticise the operations and decisions of the government. Be a part of progress and not a hindrance.
The members of the Opposition (PNCR and AFC) have no assistance to give us farmers and yet they criticise what the government is giving. Are these people in their righted senses? If you want to criticise, then I feel that you should be giving something better. At least if you can’t give finance, give some good advice. Who are these people?
Rice farmers are one of the major contributors of the agricultural aspect of the GDP and should be given some respect from these self proclaimed opportunists in the opposition.
Who are these people? They are trying to take away the daily bread of families in the rice industry whilst the government is trying their best to make an input and better the industry. Who really are they?
