Alpha, Flamingo, Uprising, BK Western Tigers in contention for final spots
The tension has already begun to rise as the semi-final action looms in the 6th annual Mackeson/English/Kashif & Shanghai Futsal competition.
The straight knock-out tournament has produced some pulsating and exhilarating matches to date and from all appearances, the best is yet to come.
Tomorrow, the teams will take the bend into the final straight when they collide for the only two available places in the championship match.
Earning the right to be in contention are Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United, who will play Flamingo in one semi, with the other between latest futsal Kings Uprising and BK International Western Tigers.
The Alpha / Flamingo showdown features some of the best players in the shorter version of the game on both sides.
The left footed Shawn Bishop is at the helm of Alpha’s challenge while arguably the best player in this form of the game in Guyana, Leon ‘Zambuly’ Yaw will again be tasked with the responsibility of guiding Flamingo.
Uprising, winners of the last competition (Guinness/GFA/NSC sponsored) at the same venue a few months ago, will start as favorites against a determined Western Tigers who’s quest for title honours will be championed by the nippy Devon Millington.
Uprising feature a number former national players in their line up as they seek their second title in as many tournaments. Leading in this regard are Omali Nassy and Terrence ‘Old Head’ Lewis among others.
The organisers in a bid to ensure maximum crowd excitement, has put together a winner take exhibition competition, with $50,000 at stake. Tiger Bay faces Banks DIH Ltd, Guinness Bar match skills with North Ruimveldt while Albouystown challenges North East. (Franklin Wilson)
