Yesterday the world celebrated the international day of older persons and the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon stated; the international community is devoting increasing attention to the human rights of older persons.
We must put an end to age discrimination, abuse, neglect and violence against older persons. I urge states to put the necessary legal protections in place, and I urge all partners to help countries develop the capacity and institutions to achieve this objective
The Ministry of Human Services and Social Security plans to have many events to celebrate this month of activities which will conclude on October 30.
According to the Chief Probation Officer, Patricia Gray, of the Ministry, the theme would be “Living for today for a better tomorrow”.
The different districts and regions would be offering health check ups at the hospitals and various centers, and we have saloons going to the Palms to offer their services, along with a list of events such as; Palms-church service, Mocha/Arcadia anniversary and dinner, Palms day of sports at the Botanical Garden, Health and wellness Clinics and Seniors citizens make-over.
