The 2009 Cellink Premier League (CPL) is set to end this evening at the Tucville ground with what is anticipated to be an exciting double header.
Successful defending champions, Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United, who have won their 4th title in a row and 3rd consecutive CPL crown will square off with Sunburst Camptown in tonight’s feature clash.
It’s a match up that has all the ingredients as a grudge affair between two of the best sides in the city. Alpha, will not he holding back and will hope to end the season on a high with victory while Camptown are hoping to also close out with a win.
Captain Howard Lowe will once again be guiding ‘The Hammer’ along with usual back up from the likes of Quincy Madramootoo, Shawn Bishop, Leon Grumble and Ronson Williams in goal. Camptown’s charge will centre around their skipper, Orlando Gilgeous, veteran Troy ‘Bugs’ Prescod, Nigel ‘Powers’ Codrington, Kester Alleyne, Lance Rolston, Telson McKinnon and young Richie Richards between the uprights.
The CPL’s penultimate match brings together BK International Western Tigers and bottom of the table Flamingo.
Tigers, will end in sixth position in the eight team league regardless of the result while Flamingo and Georgetown Football Club (GFC) will both return to the division one ranks. Incidentally, both teams had graduated together to the top flight of city football two seasons ago and will be returning to the second flight, hand in hand, come next season. Meanwhile, Pele slammed the Guyana Defence Force 3-0 on Wednesday evening in the last game for both teams.

Mervin Joseph opened the scoring for Pele in the 8th minute with King Solomon Austin doubling the advantage four minutes to the half bursting the back of the nets with a powerful header off a corner.
The yellow and blue team sealed the deal in the 71st minute with an Okeny Fraser goal to close out this end of the season on a high following some dismal performances in earlier matches.
GFC and Fruta Conquerors played to an exciting 3-3 tie in the opening game. Peter Parks continued his goal scoring form with a brace for the Bourda Blues (44th & 71st), Paul Daniels had earlier given the team the lead after 14 minutes of play.
Conquerors, showed strong focus and determination in clawing their way back to take an even share of the points through efforts from Jomo Hinds (39), Lumumba Hinds (73) and Trevon trLythcott, six minutes to game time.
