Defending champs Notre Dame confident of making it 3 in a row

When the Third Annual Banks DIH sponsored 16-team International Masters Football tournament kicks off today at three venues around the city, defending champions Notre Dame of Barbados are confident of making it three titles in as many years.
Notre Dame is one of two Bajan teams in the competition the other is arch rival Bombers. The third overseas team is expected to be Starliners of the USA who were scheduled to arrive in Guyana yesterday afternoon.
The teams have been divided into four groups of four. Notre Dame has been pooled with Santos, Thomas United and West Demerara in group A.
Group B is comprised of last year’s beaten finalists GT All Stars, Top Class, Hearts of Oak (Berbice) and El Dorado. Pele, East Bank, Western Tigers and Bombers have been placed in group C while group D is made up of Starliners, East Coast, Georgetown Football Club and Rastafari Patriarchs.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the knock out stage of the tournament which will be played over three days, ending on Sunday.
Teams failing to move past the first round will still have the opportunity to compete for trophies as they will face off for the Plate. Matches are set for the GFC, Camptown and Banks DIH Thirst park grounds.
