Floyd David, a vagrant who frequents the Bourda Market area, yesterday appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson charged for the murder of Joseph Pyneadny, the vagrant who died was a result of last Sunday’s “begging turf row.”
It is alleged that on September 27, last, at Bourda Market the defendant killed Joseph Pyneadny by dealing him a blow to the head.
As the charge is an indictable one, David was not required to plead.
The 45-year-old told the court that he was asking “a rasta man for $10” when Pyneadny approached him and told him to leave the area. He then hit David with an iron bar several times about his body.
In retaliation, David picked up what he described as a walking stick and hit Pyneadny. He told the court that Pyneadny then fell to the ground.
David further explained that Pyneadny would frequently abuse him physically “Is a regular thing…..one lash, two lash.”
The Prosecution corroborated David’s story by telling the court that the two did indeed have an altercation, which resulted in Pyneadny’s death.
Earlier reports stated that the two had got into the brawl over what was apparently ‘begging rights’ as one of the two was in the habit of soliciting money from the said shopkeeper.
It was during the argument that ensued between the two that Pyneadny struck the defendant with the iron bar twice, and was then struck himself by David, once to the head.
Pyneadny then collapsed and was subsequently taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he succumbed to his injury shortly after, on his way to have an x-ray done.
Floyd David was remanded and is scheduled to make an appearance back at court on November 20th.
