The Chinese embassy and the National Museum last evening opened an exhibition to reflect the modern China, as the country today celebrates 60 years since the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
In the 60 years since October 1, 1949, the exhibition boasts that the New China has been through tremendous social changes, and this is seen not only in its economic growth but also in areas such as politics, law, science, education and culture.
Indian High Commissioner Subeet Kumar Mandal takes keen interest in a photo titled the “Aging of Society “which forms part of a Chinese exhibition at the National Museum. The photo highlights the fact that life expectancy has moved from 35 years before the founding of the People
China, once a poor country, now enjoys prosperity. Gone are the days when it was closed and isolated; it is now open and confident, said Chinese Ambassador Zhang Jungao at the opening of the exhibition.
The exhibition, titled “A Kaleidoscope of China,” was commended by Prime Minister Samuel Hinds. It features 60 photos that depict a modern Chinese lifestyle.
“In my childhood days, for the Chinese household, bicycle, wrist watch, sewing machine and radio were the luxury goods…but over the past 30 years, sustained increases in income have guaranteed a steadily rising standard of living for the people of China,” the Ambassador stated.
As a result, he pointed out that today, the “four big commodities” have upgrade to a TV set, refrigerator, air conditioner and household computer which are no longer considered luxuries, but rather necessities of life.
The exhibition runs until October 16.
