Nine-year-old Satesh Deodat, of lot 9 Houston Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, and a student of Agricola Primary School, was hit by a speeding motorcycle on a pedestrian crossing about 12:15hrs yesterday.
Deodat sustained multiple abrasions, bruises and laceration to the body.
According to Ralph Legall, a teacher at the primary school, “detectives were on the road at the time of the accident, and they took the motorcyclist to the West Ruimveldt Police Station. The boy’s left foot is bulging out behind the knee and it looks very serious”.
Legall further said there is also a traffic sign stating, “Slow down; children’s crossing,” to which very few persons would adhere.
One eyewitness said that the child was crossing the road and a speeding motorcycle hit him at the middle of the pedestrian crossing.
Officers at Ruimveldt Police Station said that charges are likely.
