Residents of Ridge Village on the island of Wakenaam, Essequibo River, will receive electricity in another four weeks. The Guyana Power and Light Company has erected the necessary poles and are currently running the primary lines to the village. Some of the secondary lines have already been installed.

The residents are anxiously awaiting this service as many homes have already been wired ever since the island became populated more than two century ago.
