-men nabbed in Alberttown house, guns recovered
Police believe they have made a breakthrough in their investigations into the execution-style murder of Kaneville resident, Brendon Charles, and a recent robbery, following the arrest yesterday of two men in an Alberttown house.
An official said that the suspects, identified as Orpheus John and Steve Mohamed, were detained around 16:30 hrs after police raided the property, which was under surveillance.
A .32 pistol and a .38 revolver were found on the premises.
Police believe that one of the firearms was used to execute Charles, who was slain in a Kaneville yard on August 8, last.
Orpheus John is reportedly from Craig, East Bank Demerara, while Mohamed, who was recently released from jail on an armed robbery charge, is from Kaneville.
Police say that one of the men is also a suspect in a shooting last week in Kaneville of 45-year-old cane cutter Krishna Persaud,
The victim, of Third Street, Kaneville, East Bank Demerara, was shot to his left hip and upper abdomen during a confrontation with the gunmen.
At the time, he had run to the aid of a female shopkeeper who was being attacked by two gunmen.
From reports, Brendon Charles is believed to have been slain by a group of gunmen with whom the family had a prolonged dispute.
Relatives implicated at least one of the gunmen in the execution-style killing of two of Charles brothers.
Deion Charles, 23, was gunned down in 2002, while his brother, Devon Charles, 21, died in similar fashion in Agricola in 2005, allegedly at the hands of now-dead gunman Jermaine ‘Skinny’ Charles and his associates.
