Just about 8:30hrs yesterday car HB 2910 ended up in a canal at Versailles. The driver said that he was proceeding north and had to apply the brakes to avoid hitting a vehicle that was in front of his car.
He said that he swerved off the road and all was well but it was when he tried to get back on the road that his fate was sealed.
He said that he was hit by Leyland truck GFF 264 from behind. The truck driver however said that he and the car driver were both headed north when the car attempted to overtake his truck.
He said that there was not enough space on the road and that the car cut across his path, clipping the front of the truck and plunging into the drain.
Neither driver was hurt but the car would need extensive repairs.
Police sources said the car was headed south and that the driver broke the traffic rules.
