– Two persons arrested
A post mortem performed on the woman who was found dead in her bed on Sunday at Tain Village on the Corentyne was strangled to death.
According to the post mortem which was performed yesterday at the Port Mourant Hospital mortuary, the woman died as a result of manual strangulation.
Sources close to the investigation stated that acting on information they have detained two males in connection with the incident.
The sources added that the police are working on the theory that the woman’s death may have resulted from a triangular love affair gone sour.
The naked body of 49-year-old, Chinta Punwassy, known as ‘Chandra’, was found in her bed early Sunday morning.
At the time of the discovery, blood stains were seen on the bed sheet, pillow, mattress and night clothes. However, there was only a small bruise on the woman’s chin and her tongue was protruding. A bloody knife was recovered from under the bed. There was also some blood on the kitchen door of the lower flat.
Reports are that the intruder/s may have gained entry to the house by breaking a part of the stairway leading to the kitchen, the three bedrooms and the living room in the upper flat of the house.
An alarm was raised by neighbors after the woman failed to surface for the day. The dead woman’s family was informed and they immediately visited her home but were greeted with a locked gate.
The woman’s sister eventually entered the house where she was met the naked body of Punwassy.
Relatives said that it appeared as if the woman was sexually molested before she died. However, police say further tests have to be done to determine whether or not the woman was sexually molested.
