…claims that he is a victim of misplaced identity
A man, who on September 11, last, allegedly used the alias “Raymond Godfrey Barrington” defrauded Francisco Da Silva of $6M, appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer related charges.
The man, Ray Ferrier, 51, of Kuru Kuru, Soesdyke/ Linden Highway who pleaded not guilty, told the magistrate that he is being mistaken for someone else. He even claimed that he never saw the virtual complainant before.
When the magistrate asked Da Silva if the defendant was the person with whom he transacted business, he confirmed, even though he appeared a tad hesitant in doing so.
The prosecutor, Kushandat Ramana, explained that the defendant with the aid of a false name and documents, sold a property located on the East half, of part of lot 74 Kitty to DaSilva for $6M.
The prosecutor further produced the transport signed by the defendant to suggest that he is indeed guilty of fraud. However, the defendant’s attorney, Vic Puran, objected to the prosecutor’s reports, declaring that he is trying to mislead the court.
“Who is it to say, that the signature does not belong to someone else?” the attorney said.
The attorney went on to say that since there wasn’t a signature analysis executed to ascertain that the signature on the documents is that of his client, he be placed on bail.
The magistrate granted bail of $1m and fixed October 19 for the next hearing.
