Kelvin Johnson and Lionel D’Andrade turned the tables on Pamenos Ballantyne when the local distance duo placed first and second respectively in the Ministry of Health 7 ½ Mile Road Race in Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday.
Johnson won the event in 44:20 edging D’Andrade (44:23) in the process. Ballantyne was third in the distance with 44:50. D’Andrade told Kaieteur Sport from the island yesterday that he and Johnson are intensifying preparations.
They are scheduled to compete at the IAAF South American 10km Road Race Classic in Suriname and Guyana next month. Ballantyne had beaten the Guyanese duo at the week before at the Newsday Newspapers 5km Road Race.
The St Vincent and the Grenadines distance athlete would also be competing at the South American 10k race. D’Andrade said that he will be using the remaining races to fine tune his fitness before arriving in Guyana mid-October.
