Ravens defeated Walton Hall by 18 runs to win the final of the Caricom Rice Mill 20/20 cricket competition played recently at the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground on the Essequibo Coast.
Ravens took first strike and made 155-4 in 20 overs. Mahendra Bennet top scored with 57 while Elroy Stephney supported with 29 and Dennis Benjamin 24.
Navin Bahadur took 2-29 for Walton Hall who were bowled out for 137 in 20 overs in reply. Devindra Balgobin made 29 and Suraj Sookdeo 26 as Punraj Singh, Stephney and Dennis Reid grabbed two wickets each for the winners. Bennet was adjudged the man-of-the-match.
Ravens collected the winning trophy and $25,000, while Walton Hall received the runner up hardware and $15,000.
Suraj Sookdeo who scored 247 runs in the tournament received the best batsman award while Rishie Bishop with 20 wickets was given the best bowler prize.
President of the North Essequibo Cricket Committee Prince Holder thanked the sponsor while Mikey Singh a representative of the sponsor congratulated Ravens for winning the competition.
