Minister of Housing and Water Irfaan Ali, yesterday, said that the government has not allocated any land to the People’s Progressive Party.
Ali was responding to a query by the Alliance for Change which was in receipt of information that the ruling PPP received three house lots or parcels of land by way of Transport.
The AFC identified the house lots as 153, 154, and 155 Bath Village, West Coast Berbice.
According to the AFC, the advertisements for the passing of the Transports for these house lots were placed in the Official Gazette of August 1, 2009 as Nos. 17, 18, and 19 respectively, for the County of Berbice.
Ali told this newspaper that any person or organization was free to apply for house lots. Some 500 lots were allocated to various non governmental organizations, he said.
According to the Minister among the beneficiaries of these lots are Food for the Poor, Habitat for Humanity as well as several churches, mosques and temples.
The AFC noted that as far as research permits, it has been unable to find a corresponding precedent in Guyana or the Commonwealth Caribbean of the political party which forms the government being given Transport or Title to lands.
